Fortnite Opens the Gateway to Dungeons and Dragons in New Collaboration

Fortnite expands its community map offering with five new islands inspired by Dungeons and Dragons and the world of Forgotten Realms.

Dungeons and Dragons is coming to Fortnite in the form of five fan-made islands that combine creative mode with the fantasy atmosphere of Forgotten Realms.

Dungeons and Dragons in Fortnite

The new collaboration builds on a simple idea: bringing tabletop fantasy adventure into the world of building and gunfights. Fortnite is gaining five community islands that are thematically based on Dungeons & Dragons and take their backdrops from the Forgotten Realms setting, the most famous world of the entire franchise featuring cities, dungeons, dragons, and ancient grudges.

Development took place using Epic Games' UEFN tools, meaning the maps were created specifically for the game's modern creative ecosystem. Each island targets a different type of fun. Part of the offering focuses on fast-paced player-vs-player combat, another part emphasizes social gathering and exploration, and there is even a pure skill-based run full of traps and obstacles. Cooperation gets its own spotlight in a boss fight and also in a mode that the authors present as the largest cooperative roguelike experience created within Fortnite.

Část nabídky míří na rychlé souboje mezi hráči, další část staví na společenském setkávání a průzkumu, nechybí ani čistě dovednostní běh plný pastí a překážek. Kooperace dostává vlastní prostor v souboji s bossem a také v režimu, který autoři prezentují jako největší kooperativní roguelike zážitek vytvořený v rámci Fortnite.

The settings don't rely on generic fantasy. Players will encounter the Yawning Portal tavern, the icy ridges of the Spine of the World, and the volcanic region around Mount Hotenow. Story motifs are reinforced by enemies led by the dragon Klauth and the necromancer Valindra Shadowmantle, ensuring the adventure doesn't feel like a random mix of decorations with no connection to the DnD world.

Access to the islands is through codes in the map search menu. The entry uses three numerical blocks with hyphens in between. Island names and search codes:
