GTA VI to supposedly launch digital-only, physical copies may arrive with a delay

According to information from a European retailer, Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch only in digital format on day one, with the physical edition arriving later due to concerns over leaks.

The most anticipated game of the year likely won't please physical media collectors. Reports from Poland suggest that the publisher plans to delay the distribution of discs.

GTA VI digital-only?

Reports from the European distribution chain suggest that parent company Take-Two intends to prioritize exclusively digital sales, which would represent a minor revolution for such a massive production.

The main reason for this radical decision is allegedly the leadership's panic over early leaks of key plot twists. The company wants to protect the story of the central duo, Jason and Lucia, at all costs from internet leaks, which in the past have often originated precisely from early stock arriving at retailers.

Digital exclusivity in the first weeks would ensure that all players start their adventure in the fictional state of Leonida at the same moment without the risk of spoilers that could ruin the experience for millions of fans.

Information regarding the alternative date for the delivery of physical boxes currently varies and brings significant uncertainty to the situation. Some industry voices speak of a delay of three to four weeks after the digital premiere, while pessimistic scenarios mention a postponement until the first half of 2027. According to retail sources, further specific information is expected in mid-February. Until then, it makes sense to treat a digital start as a likely plan.

The release date for GTA VI is currently targeted for November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. We should then expect the PC version in 2027.
